As an alumnus of The Ohio State University, I'm by no means happy with this decision. This act of political correctness goes to the heart of what's wrong with higher education in America.

The Gee Administration was leaps and bounds beyond the situation that existed at my alma mater when I first stepped on campus under the reign of terror known as Karen Holbrook. She famously bashed the student body in an interview for her next job, and did little to help the long-term future of the university.

President Gee always put the students first, and I'm still proud to have shook his hand on my graduation day some years ago. He will be missed.

Comment on Virginia: Zach Martin Uses Liberal Web Developer for Site Theme by NedHowey

Hi Justin. Thanks for your post and your attentiveness to the details of both Mr Martin´s website and our design firm. This is Ned from Tectonica. Unfortunately I believe you may have misunderstood what an official ¨theme¨ for NationBuilder is. This theme is one of the freely available themes for any NationBuilder customer and not a theme custom designed for Mr. Martin. The Zach Martin site is among hundreds of sites that have selected to use the themes that we designed. This includes politicians across the entire spectrum, as well as, non-profits, small businesses, and governmental agencies. We do not have a direct client relationship with Mr. Martin nor has he hired us for any work.

To criticize Mr. Martin for his use of our official theme is tantamount to criticizing a conservative politician for using Google´s services or Apple´s products because they are companies with liberal associations or have production lines outside of the country.

In creating custom political themes (as oppose to official and freely available themes) Tectonica does only conduct website work for left-leaning and progressive politicians and movements, as quite frankly, that is where our passion lies and where we believe our efforts are most successful.

We do strongly believe, however, in the deeply democratic model encompassed by NationBuilder services - which offers a low cost option with powerful community organizing tools. NationBuilder does not discriminate in offering its services based on the political affiliations. And due to its pricing and quality allows the power of ideas, people, and movements to lead instead of those with established economic resources. Above all, we value this democratic principle which played greatly into our decision to partner with NationBuilder on the creation of official themes for their clients.

We are extremely happy to know of the popularity and success of the themes we created regardless of political difference that might exist between us and those utilizing them.
You may learn more about our services specific to NationBuilder on this page: http://tectonica.co/nationbuilder/

One quick note: Bloomberg did not become an independent until 2007, about two years after he was re-elected to a second term in 2005. He won the GOP nomination in 2009, but it wasn't his primary line--thanks to electoral fusion, candidates in New York can appear on multiple party lines, and all the votes are added together to get that candidate's final total.

Justin,

I don't even understand how the Democrats believe they can enforce background checks on private sales unless they really believe the honor code will take precedence in this situation. Unless we become a nanny state and input data on every firearm available, their locations, etc, there is no way to determine if a private sale is occurring and that the ATF or another agency has to step in and conduct a background check

Justin,
I certainly respect your right to state your opinion on this matter that you consider it wrong that ACU excluded GOProud for the 2013 meeting. However, I'd make the following arguments in favor of their decision.
1) They had been invited to prior meetings an had apparently conducted themselves in a manner that was not acceptable to many in attendance.
2) This is a meeting of "conservatives", not a meeting of "republicans."
3) Your article states that the objective of GOProud is to seek moderation of the "republican" position on traditional marriage.

Given the above I'd make a case that traditional marriage is more in line with a "conservative" value than a "republican" value. Thereby this particular venue may not be the best place for GOProud to make their case to republicans. In other words, the GOProud is not about changing the definition of "conservative", but rather about making the Republican Party less conservative. Again, their mission does not seem to match the purpose of this meeting as a gathering of "conservatives."
Thank You
